| Banned for reporting an AH duplication bug Posted: 21 Jul 2021 04:21 PM PDT ***** Important Update - I've received notice that my ban was reviewed and will be upheld thus the ban will not be reverted. This was another copy/paste email that says "the violation did occur" without any mention or acknowledgement of the reported bug. I don't dispute the violation occurring; it absolutely did and I provided them the exact details of the violation. What I'm disputing is the obvious presence of a bug that creates conditions that were required for this violation to happen in the first place. This bug puts an unfair onus on the player to simply hope they don't randomly encounter it. ***** I'm a regular poster in /r/forza but using an alt account as this blurs the lines between my personal enjoyment of the series and my professional expertise. A few days ago I encountered a completely unintentional AH duplication bug. This was a method I hadn't seen before, encountered by chance and sent in a full bug report along with steps to recreate via the support portal last week. The duplication was not done again beyond the initial unintended encounter with this bug. Today I heard back and was issued a permanent ban with the usual copy/paste people post when they get banned. In my professional life, I've reported countless vulnerabilities and exploits in various products to a wide range of organizations. These types of reports involve everything from insecurities in photoradar ticket payment systems to crypto vulnerabilities in antimalware software. Every organization has been responsive, thankful and great to work with. This is the first time I've ever encountered this type of response. I know bans are virtually impossible to get reverted unless you're a popular streamer but heads up to anyone who wants to report bugs in good faith. Don't use your primary account information etc. unless you don't mind risking a ban. Update edit: I used the dedicated support function for banned accounts to inquire why I was banned. The ticket ended up being assigned to the exact person that issued the original ban. A quick Google search of that handle reveals this is highly unlikely to get sorted out based on results where others have expressed frustration following up with this specific handle. Update edit: I don't exactly know what the /r/forza rules are for talking about bugs so I'll simply say this isn't complicated and seems to trigger a server side race condition where the player has no control over specific actions when yet-to-be-determined conditions are met. I don't fully understand these conditions and was hoping to look into this more as part of a formal bug report. Now that I'm banned, I can't check further without risking more issues b/c I can't use the AH. The intent was to provide more details to the developers with a bug report as opposed to just getting banned for supposed cheating. Update edit: I've resolved the bug reports on my own as I have more interesting things to look at and zero faith this will get reversed. I'm posting this simply to warn anyone else in this community that good faith bug disclosures risk being interpreted as cheating with no attempt to better understand the problem. Even a simple "we already know about this, please don't exploit in prod" would have sufficed. Update edit: I know why I was banned. "For unaccounted Credits and XP". I suspect this was tied to the unintended duplication of a car and it's sale as the car itself would get flagged as something that was not created using in-game methods (wheelspin, completing a weekly challenge etc). The point of my bug report is that I didn't duplicate the car intentionally, wasn't even trying to let alone thinking about it, am confident I know what bug I hit and am hoping they can look closer at what caused the car to be duplicated (see previous edit on possible race condition).
