    About the Drivatars...

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 04:15 PM PDT

Like the title says I wanted to share something that I experienced while playing Forza Horizon 4 and why I think the Drivatar systems is really something special.

Today I decided to boot up a new campaign in FH4 after having not touched the game in over a year. While going through the intro race and feeling nostalgic for all of the memories I had from my formative years playing Forza games with friends I began to feel a sense of emptiness. After the past year of pandemic and politics it feels hard for me to be immersed in a more superficial game like FH4, it sort of feels like going to Disney Land hoping it will cure your depression. The story in FH4 is ridiculous, illogical, and cheesy as heck, which can definitely be enjoyable given the right mindset. But the reality is this style of story does not provide me with anything to get emotionally invested in which makes the escapism/immersion part of the journey null. I'm not sure what the best way to bring back a meaningful journey and story into the franchise but I know I want it to happen. Forza Horizon 1 had decent pacing and world building but in my opinion the series has left these two elements behind in favor of flair and spectacles. In a perfect world these elements would be equal.

So coming back around to why I think Drivatars are such an important addition to the game. After having these thoughts about the series and leaving the intro sequence with an introspective mind, I began free roaming in my brand new Charger r/T. I was having a nice time cruising though I still had that intrusive empty feeling.

But then, I drove up onto a Drivatar of my life long best friend who passed away quite suddenly and tragically almost exactly one year ago. Life has been tough for a while, but cruising with my buddy again brought me back into the game in a way I never expected, I felt genuine emotion and joy. The controller in my hand wasn't merely a remote controlling the car on the screen anymore, it was a way for me to interact with the memory of someone in a way I never had before. I felt immersed in the game again, and no matter how "fake" this experience was it made me feel real emotions that I'm so thankful to feel. I love these games, and I appreciate all the time, passion, and love put into them. The Drivatars add a depth to the game that mostly lives in the subconscious, but given the right context and opportunity it can provide more than a simple name to fill the world with. In my case the memories associated with the Drivatars name and behavior brought the memories associated with it back to life. I want to see this series and community grow in a way that allows more people have genuine experiences like this in these incredibly fun and beautiful worlds.

Thank you Microsoft, Playground Games, Turn 10, and everyone who makes these experiences possible.

It was good cruising with you again, Jordan.

This amazing bush I had found.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 05:34 PM PDT

Somehow I nailed this jump, recovered, proceeded to do the best drift of my life, and then later went on to win the race (against CPU Drivatars, not good enough for real people). I love this game.

A few underrated cars in Forza Horizon 4 that I love!

It's painful enough going through all the garbage/poorly made challenges by idiots already, stop making it worse; and stop fucking upvoting them.

    TMX wheel issue

    Posted: 01 Jul 2021 11:18 AM PDT

In honor of this weekend's real life NASCAR race at Road America, here's some racing from my recent career race in the NASCAR series at Road America!

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 06:32 AM PDT

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in FH3 Blizzard Mountain, couldn't you see the Surfer's Paradise building from the top of the building?

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 05:06 PM PDT

I remember when I first got Blizzard Mountain I went straight up to the top as far as you could go and went into camera mode. I was just fucking around, zooming in on random shit when in the distance I saw this weirdly shaped rectangle thing in the fog, I think Southwest (At the top if you point your car so it's facing down the mountain and it's a little bit to the right off on the horizon). I remember thinking 'what the fuck is that' and when I zoomed in more, it was the shape of the building in the center of Surfer's Paradise.

I could be wrong, and this could just be the Mandela Effect at play, but I remember being so weirded out yet it felt so cool to discover an Easter Egg like that.

Stuck on Season Change, infinitely loading.

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 03:16 PM PDT

So I just started FH 4. I'm still playing through the first few hours where you get reputation to change qualify for seasons and stuff. So last night I qualified for winter, but it was too late to so I just exited the game before the season change. Now when I try to play, I get to my house, can select cars, can essentially do anything before free roam. But as soon as I try to initiate free roam. It goes to "WINTER" and gets stuck infinitely at changing season with a black screen. Is there a fix?

Forza Horizon 4 “launch loop” on steam

    Posted: 02 Jul 2021 11:23 AM PDT

Hey all, new to the game. I picked it up on steam during the sale. Seems to play just fine as best I can tell, but if I exit the game, it continually keeps launching over and over again. It launches, I exit and repeat. Is anyone else experiencing this?
